Always remember to be aware of your surroundings. In some instances, you will be traveling through rural areas. A cell phone is always recommended.
Observe wildlife but please respect their environment and their freedom to live unmolested. I will now step down from my soap box. 🙂
From Interstate 75 heading either north of south, take Exit 301 (Cortez Boulevard aka Highway 50) west. Keep west on Highway 98 (Highway 50) toward Brooksville. Make a right onto Highway 41 and head north toward Floral City. Just north of the traffic light at E. Lake Avenue, there is a Fruit Stand. Just to the north of that, make a right into the parking lot behind the Fruit Stand and you will see parking for the trail to your left (before the Fire Station).
This loop is 26 miles; slightly longer if you go out to see the Withlacoochee River at the River Trail. This loop starts at the Floral City Trailhead and heads south through Istchatta and continues on to the turn around at mile marker 36 heading south which is mile marker 10 heading north.
The trail bed is in fair shape. There are some dimples on the edges of the trail. The trail is flat with only minimal rises in terrain that should not prove too taxing to any riders.
The trail is mostly tree lined which provides shade for most the ride.
There are facilities at the Floral City Trailhead.
There are facilities at the Croom Road Trailhead.
The scenery may seem monotonous to some.
Almost the entire 26 miles is tree lined.
The River Trail is well worth the short trek to see the Withlacoochee River.
